In 2023, fight the epidemic of lethargy!
COVID-19 has had a major impact on our lifestyle. Due to the health crisis, we have even ended up in an epidemic of… lethargy! Perhaps your New Year’s resolution could be to give yourself an energy boost? Follow our 5 tips and make 2023 a year full of energy!1
Are you staring blankly at the dishes piling up? Do you feel listless and waste away on your sofa watching Netflix? Well, you are not alone! According to a major French study, 30% of the population feels less motivated. Furthermore, 41% of those surveyed are more tired than before the COVID-19 pandemic, and 45% do not feel like going out.1 The New Year is approaching, so it is time to think about your resolutions! How about giving yourself a bit more daily energy again?
1. A good night’s sleep is essential to combat fatigue2
Stress, work, screens… In recent years (and even more so since the pandemic), the number of hours of sleep and their quality have decreased. As a result, we feel tired as soon as we wake up. To get back into your rhythm, you can resolve to go to sleep at a set time (before midnight!). Set an alarm if necessary. Just make sure to wind down before you go to sleep!
Do you not feel rested after a night’s sleep? Evaluate your sleep quality with a smartwatch and talk to your doctor about it.
Finding your vitality again is mainly a matter of finding options that are tailored to you!
2. Take a close look at your diet and eat as little sugar as possible to feel fitter3
Thanks to unprocessed, fiber-rich, and varied food, you will feel fit throughout the day. Conversely, processed, sugar-rich, or fat-rich food is detrimental to your energy levels. In particular, eat as little added sugar as possible. Start your day with a good breakfast (e.g., oatmeal with fruit and nuts) rather than pastries.
Those who drink enough water will also stay in better shape! (Discover the signs of dehydration on our blog.)
3. Move to combat lethargy4,5
When you are low on energy, it seems unthinkable that you would feel like getting off the sofa. If your fitness is poor, why not try a few yoga sessions? An exercise bike, a desk bike, or an exercise ball can also give you that first push to move more and become more active step by step.
4. Vitamins to get back in shape and stay that way6
For those struggling with persistent fatigue and for those who are starting to exercise again or following a specific diet, an extra boost in the form of food supplements and vitamins can make a difference. If in doubt, you can ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
5. Do what you love and get back in shape
The most important thing is to do what you enjoy, what reignites the spark in you and makes you want to move. Love gastronomy? Then maybe you could look for local specialties from nearby cities and regions. Do you love animals? Go exploring in our nature reserves. More into writing? Go looking for the setting for your next novel and visit those places. Everything is allowed!
